The Hip Hop Academy uses the attraction of Hip Hop to motivate New York City’s young men and women to enhance their skills in 3 areas necessary for success in life. These areas are:

o Communications: Business-grade, written and verbal communication
o Problem Solving: Business-grade math, simple accounting, and creative
problem solving

o Life Management: Vision and Values, Negotiation Skills, Conflict Resolution, Collaboration

The Hip Hop Academy was founded by the Local Development Corporation of
Crown Heights, a 501(c) 3 Community Based Organization that has been a leader
in community development in Central Brooklyn for nearly 20 years.

The Hip Hop Academy is located at the WEB Center in W.E.B. Dubois High School
in Crown Heights. The Local Development Corporation planned and built the WEB Center, and also equipped it with digital graphics, video and audio recording capabilities to provide students and the community with access to advanced communication technologies.

The Hip Hop Academy serves as an incubator to prepare young people for the demands and the opportunities in the entertainment field. It also seeks to develop
a pool of talent that can make responsible and profitable contributions to New York’s recording and entertainment industry.

The Hip Hop Academy will incubate the next generation of talent originating in the neighborhoods of New York City. Not all of them will succeed in the entertainment field, but they will significantly improve their educational skills; their problem solving and capacity for collaboration; their life management skills and their sense of self worth will be greatly enhanced.
